Family Fun Nights at Evergreen Elementary
Family Fun Nights at Evergreen Elementary School
The Church will work with the staff and PTA at Evergreen Elementary to provide three Family Fun Nights for children in kindergarten and 1st grade. A simple dinner will be provided. The theme for the first night is learning games using a deck of cards. Three card games-Concentration, Go Fish, and War will be “taught” to parents; families will then play the game(s) for about 20-30 minutes. Each family will take home a deck of cards.
Wednesday, March 12, is Art Night. Three art activities which can be accomplished at home will be introduced to families. Time and materials will be provided for families to complete a fun art activity.
March 20, is Reading Night. The facilitator will demonstrated three ways a children’s book can be used to encourage reading, thinking, and time together. Each kindergartener and 1st grader will receive a new book to take home.
Over the three weeks, 2 essentials for raising emotionally healthy children will be introduced (Respect, Belonging, Acceptance, Importance, and Safety/Security). Families, as they eat together and play games, will practice the skill(s) introduced that evening. Families attending the last night will receive a copy of Raising Emotionally Healthy Children: Meeting the Five Critical Needs of Children, by Dr. Gerald Newmark, PhD.
These events are part of the partnership between Evergreen Elementary, Bethel School District and Spanaway UMC. The Evergreen Family Resource Center is another service of this partnership.
